The Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson In Pursuit of Excellence Award and Gala dates back to 2005 when Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson announced their major gift to the school to build and support an educational environment that provides students an Education for Life. Since then the In Pursuit of Excellence Award has been given to outstanding community members who demonstrate leadership, tireless efforts on behalf of the community, philanthropic support, and high moral standards.

This year’s honorees are Paul and Sandy Schiffman. Paul Schiffman has dedicated his professional career to motivating teachers to inspire in the classroom and to lead students towards productive and successful futures. Formerly head of The Harley School in Rochester, New York, Paul is among the nation’s most respected educators. Sandy’s professional career included 26 years with the Xerox Corporation as a senior financial advisor, followed by a career as a financial consultant for other successful corporations. Mr. Schiffman is a volunteer for the Clark County School District, and he and his wife are members of countless other local non-profit organizations. When asked for a word to describe the Schiffmans, all who know them agree that they are living examples of the word “selfless.”
